Ready to Win Aldershot for Labour!

Thanks for submitting!

My Story!

I am honoured to stand as the Labour Party's parliamentary candidate for Aldershot. With over two decades of dedicated service, I bring a wealth of experience as a nurse within the National Health Service (NHS). My journey began at the heart of patient care, working as a registered nurse in some of London's most renowned teaching hospitals. Over the years, I have been privileged to witness the NHS's incredible resilience and the profound impact it has on people's lives but also seen firsthand how the Tories' policies have had a profound impact on the National Health Service (NHS), with years of austerity measures leading to detrimental effects. Chronic underfunding and budget cuts have strained the NHS, resulting in overworked staff, increased waiting times, and heightened pressure on healthcare services. Privatisation initiatives and fragmented policies have jeopardised the essence of a publicly funded healthcare system, threatening the accessibility and quality of care. The erosion of vital NHS resources under Tory governance underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive and sustainable approach to healthcare, prioritising the well-being of patients and the dedication of frontline healthcare workers which only the Labour Party can deliver.

My professional journey evolved into senior management within the NHS, providing me with a comprehensive understanding of the complexities and challenges that our health and social care system faces. My commitment to public service runs deep, rooted in the belief that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare, regardless of their background or circumstance. As a nurse and public service worker, I am driven by a set of values and work ethics that prioritise compassion, equality, and the well-being of our community. Aldershot deserves strong representation that understands the intricacies of health and social care, addressing anti-social behaviours, drug and alcohol issues, building social housing and I am eager to bring my passion, experience, and dedication to serve the residents of this community.

I believe that I am our best chance to deliver Aldershot's first ever Labour Party MP.

 In solidarity!

I pledge to ensure a robust and integrated healthcare system that caters to the needs of all our community. I am committed to pledging support for the National Health Services (NHS), social care, and public services. Recognising the vital role of timely access to quality primary care and community services, I will advocate for a joined-up delivery with social care, creating a seamless continuum of care and support. Additionally, I am dedicated to championing the establishment of a National Care Service, fostering cohesive and holistic care and support for all residents in Aldershot, Farnborough, Blackwater, Hawley & Yateley . This comprehensive approach aims to enhance the well-being of our community and address the evolving needs of individuals across the spectrum of healthcare.

Addressing the Cost-of-Living Crisis

The cost of living crisis has left many struggling with soaring prices, stagnant wages, and increased financial burdens. My priority would be to champion policies that alleviate the cost of living pressures, including advocating for fair wages, affordable childcare, and targeted support for those most affected and ensuring that the Labour Party New Deal for Working People is rolled out in all sectors where this is applicable in Aldershot.
I will actively engage with the community, push for legislation that addresses income inequality, and collaborating with businesses to ensure a fair and equitable distribution of economic benefits in Aldershot.

Tackling Crime & Anti-Social Behaviour

I pledge to prioritise the safety and well-being of our community by implementing robust strategies to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in Aldershot. As your parliamentary candidate, I will work closely with local law enforcement, community organisations, and residents to develop targeted initiatives that address the root causes of crime. Through increased community policing, youth engagement programs, and collaborative efforts with local businesses, we will create an environment where everyone feels secure. Together, we will build a stronger, interconnected community, fostering trust and solidarity among residents as we work to make Aldershot a safer place for all.

Ensuring Affordable, Quality Accommodation in Aldershot

Social housing faces significant challenges characterised by a shortage of affordable homes, rising homelessness, and a lack of investment in maintaining existing housing stock. I will advocate for substantial investment in social housing initiatives, aiming to increase the availability of affordable social housing and improve living conditions for residents. I will advocate for comprehensive housing policies that prioritise affordability, sustainable development, and community engagement, thereby fostering a more inclusive and equitable housing landscape in Aldershot.

FAQ

  • Could you share any personal or professional ties you have to the Aldershot constituency that motivated you to seek candidacy here?
First and foremost, my interest in the Aldershot candidacy stems from having family members and friends both in Aldershot, Farnham and surrounding areas. I frequent the area quite a lot and I have done so over the past couple of years. I have two brothers who are veterans in the Navy and the Air Force respectively. My deep commitment to public service and a desire to make a positive impact in the community having seen firsthand some of the challenges that Aldershot and its surrounding areas face. Furthermore, I am deeply passionate about the issues that matter most to the residents and local communities in Aldershot, such as improving local education, tackling the anti-social behaviour, strengthening and forging relationships with local health and social care services, and fostering economic growth.
  • Given the large presence of the military and veteran community in Aldershot, could you describe your connection or experiences in relation to this group?
I understand the significance of this community in our constituency and the important role they play in our society. While I may not have a personal military background, I am deeply committed to representing and serving the needs and concerns of our military and veteran community as both my brothers served the military and the navy for over 20 years and one of them is still in active service.  As a nurse, I worked and procured services for mental health support among military personnel and veterans facing mental health challenges, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression. Therefore, having experienced personally some of the challenges faced by veterans and their families, this has given me a good insight and understanding.
  • What do you feel about the Labour Party's position on the environment?
Climate change and the environment have become two big contenders I wholeheartedly support the Labour Party's stance on protecting and preserving our environment for current and future generations. The Labour Party's position in relation to the Green New Deal firmly believes in transforming our economy rooted in the recognition that climate change is fundamentally a class issue, and a product of our broken economic system. I support the strong commitment in addressing the environmental concerns, and environmental issues are among the most pressing challenges of our time, and I am encouraged that the party has taken a proactive role in advocating for meaningful action.  I believe that the Labour Party’s Green Prosperity Plan, is a multi-pronged strategy intended to “grow the economy, create jobs, cut energy bills and also reduce emissions and the best way to do that is through green industries, which is where the party leadership are focusing on.  I feel that the party will need to engage the younger population and not just those who are middle class.
  • How do you feel about the party's economic policies?
In my view, the Labour Party has a well-defined set of economic policies aimed at addressing economic inequalities, promoting fairness, and creating opportunities for all, which prioritise the well-being of working people and the overall prosperity of our nation all of which I know as a public sector worker will be beneficial. As the Labour Party seeks to increase investment in public services, including the NHS, education, and public services and infrastructure. This investment is essential to ensuring that all citizens have access to high-quality services and that no one is left behind.
  • What Has your Labour Party Involvement Been?
I first became involved with the UK Labour Party as a young adult when I began to take an interest in politics but didn't participate much until after I became qualified as a nurse. My involvement has always been closely intertwined with my profession. As a healthcare professional and a public service worker of over 20 years, I have seen firsthand the impact that policies and decisions made by the Tories government has had on our health and social care system, patients, and public service workers. This experience has fuelled my commitment to the Labour Party and the trade union movement as they align very much to what I stand for and my beliefs, values and as a public service worker. I was drawn to the party's values and principles, which align closely with my own beliefs in social justice, equality, and opportunities for all. I was particularly inspired by the party's commitment to addressing issues such as income inequality, healthcare access, education, and workers' rights.  As a single mother with a young child at the time, I started getting more engaged with the Labour Party, by helping out in canvassing, door knocking, phone banking, supporting colleagues in campaigning for colleagues in both local and  by-elections and attended party conferences and  I have engaged at various levels (locally and nationally) in supporting candidates, colleagues and friends in winning seats as councillors, MPs and at the basic level getting them to become members of the party.  I have served as a parish councillor and a Labour Party activist. I am the UNISON Labour Link Officer for NHS NW Surrey hospitals, the Co-operative Party Secretary for Surrey, a local school governor and Secretary for SME4Labour.
